Why become a certified Passive House Designer?

It is a well known fact that new buildings can be designed in such a way that they consume only a small fraction of the energy used by conventional houses up to now.

Far more than 10,000 Passive Houses have been built all over Europe - buildings, whose space heating demand equals only about one tenth compared to the average building stock. The quality requirements for the Passive House standard were compiled quite some years ago, all relevant information is published and freely accessible on the internet. In addition, planning tools such as the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) have been developed.

All this cannot, however, replace the careful designer/architect - it only facilitates his work. The only thing that a designers also needs is a sound understanding of the associated technical background knowledge. Any designer can acquire this knowledge and skill. Advanced training on the essential critical topics surrounding Passive House design is nowadays being offered by a growing number of institutions. A choice of training providers can be found here.

A different path of further education is practical experience. An architect who has already built a Quality Approved Passive House, must inevitably have acquired the necessary know-how.

The certificate is an indication for potential customers that the holder has acquired the knowledge and experience for successfully planning of Passive Houses.
